Acacia pendula
Form: Evergreen that grows to 10 metres – less on heavy black soil.
Functions: Windbreak. Frost Break. Ornamental. Interplant with Trees from Gondwana. Last resort drought fodder for cattle/sheep
Frost and Hardiness: Grows throughout Inland Qld and NSW especially part of Brigalow Belt. Once established, trees will persist through the driest times with ease.
Planting: Year round with tree guard protection.
Product: Trees may be suitable for pollarding – yet to be tested – however other similar acacias will regrow if cut off high. Leaves are then source of mulch – branches for firewood.
SUPER TUBES ONLY as Seedlings need extra space for root development
Growth Rate: Capable of reaching 2 metres within 3-5 years
Natural Range and Soil Type: Known to grow on black soil and lighter loam. May favour loam for maximum height.
Predators: All Grazers will eat small seedlings. Prune to above stock height. Once mature cattle tend to ignore if ample grass is available.
